Come, They Told Me is an orchestral work commissioned for St. Paul’s United Methodist Church’s 2019 Epiphany/Three Kings Day Concert. The music draws on various characteristics of Latin American and Arab music, such as Phrygian mode, compound meter, hemiola, and the use of tambourine, blending these attributes together into a unique mixture. This work also aims to convey a sense of one’s own part in the holiday. As the three wise men surrendered themselves and their gifts, so may we also give the gift of ourselves to the Lord.
